OWN decided not to renew the family-tied soap drama Ambitions for a second season. It was revealed in an Instagram post by actress Robin Givens, who played Stephanie Carlisle in the series.
In a statement, OWN confirmed the cancellation and expressed their thanks to the cast and crew.
“We’re thankful to Will Packer, Jamey Giddens and the entire cast and crew of Ambitions for their creativity and hard work on the show. Every week they delivered great drama, intrigue and a lot of fun storytelling.”
They topped off the statement by assuring fans this isn’t the last they’ll see Will Packer and Jamey Giddens on OWN. They are still going to work with him in the future.
“We look forward to continue working with Will Packer and his talented team of collaborators in the future.”
How could this be?
All in all, the series was well-received, but it also didn’t hold a massive audience throughout either. The season’s viewership fluctuated until the end where it fit into a 0.567 million rating, according to TV Series Finale. That being said, it started with a strong 1.179 million viewers and saw growth, decline, and growth again. All in all, the series might have turned into a cult series, but not profitable enough for OWN to keep running with.
The news comes after David Makes Man was greenlit for a second season. They are also planning on four unscripted series: Love & Marriage: Huntsville, Ready to Love, Black Love, and Black Women Own the Conversation. Tyler Perry is also in the works of the two dramas, The Haves and the Have Nots and If Loving You Is Wrong.
The Will Packer created, Ambitions, centers around Stephanie Carlisle, a lawyer married to the Atlanta mayor. The series takes you into both the personal and professional lives of her and her peers as well as her frustration with her father who doesn’t want to pass on the law firm torch. All the while, it discusses “love, power and politics in Atlanta.”
