During the recent DC FanDome, director – James Wan – gave fans a little more context, saying that Aquaman 2 isn’t just going to be a new story, rather it’s going to go in a slightly new direction. While part of a virtual panel, he claimed the sequel will be a bit more serious and relevant to the current world.
“I think the second one is a little bit more serious, a little bit more relevant in the world we are living in today. I think that’s where it wants to go.”

Patrick Wilson, on the other hand, who is playing the role of Ocean Master, also touched on the vastness of the ocean and how he’d love to see more of the oceanic world that Aquaman lives in. “I know [Wan] loves world-building and I’d like to see some of that. I know you’re going to push that ocean. There’s a lot of unexplored ocean!”
This news comes after fans learned the film will also have a splash of horror, which surprised no one considering the director’s history.
Aquaman 2 is set to release in December 2022.
