Fox has renewed animated comedy Bless the Harts for another season. The season will air sometime in 2020 or 2021. This makes the comedy second freshman series since Prodigal Son to be picked up by Fox.
The series follows the exploits of a southern family’s attempts to make ends meet in North Carolina. The overall consensus isn’t too favorable with high critic scoring, but an average fan scoring on Rotten Tomatoes.
Speaking on the renewal, entertainment president Michael Thorn explained in a statement the series is perfect for Fox. “Bless the Harts is an incredibly sharp, yet sweet, series that complements the Fox Animation Domination block perfectly.” Thorn followed up by elaborating on the high-quality staff behind the series.
“It simply doesn’t get much better than having a comedy anchored by talent like Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Ike Barinholtz, Jillian Bell and Kumail Nanjiani. We want to thank creator and executive producer Emily Spivey, whose unique voice and personal experience brought this family to life, as well as executive producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and our partners at 20th Century Fox Television. We are thrilled to watch the Hart family experience more adventures, mishaps and boxed wine for another amazing season.”
Maybe Fox sees something the average viewer doesn’t. This isn’t the first time a series got off to a rocky start and smoothed out later on. Early in its run, Fox’s Sunday frontrunner Bob’s Burgers wasn’t a fan-favorite, but now following newer seasons, it’s become a Primetime Emmy Award winner.
While Bless the Harts hasn’t been too fleshed out yet, that could change and potentially be another hit with fans.
