Disney revealed its live-action Mulan will have a theatrical release in China amid COVID-19 blocking its launch in some countries’ theaters. As it stands, no changes have been made outside of the Middle Kingdom, meaning those in the US and UK will still get the film on September 4 for the $29.99 fee through Disney Plus. They will also release the film theatrically if a country’s theaters are open and don’t have Disney’s premium streaming service just yet.

The decision was revealed on Disney’s official Weibo. The announcement led to a fair share of reactions, most of them were simply questioning when the theatrical release will be. On the poster, there wasn’t any indication of whether it will go to theaters before, after, or as Mulan launches to Disney Plus.
The launch of the live-action film has been long-awaited with four delays due to the ongoing pandemic.
