After tons of people sifting through Toy Story 4 for its big Easter egg hinting at Pixar’s now-revealed next film, Onward. It’s been a long-running tradition to implement an easter egg to hint at the next movie yet to launch. Such inclusions include the final battle sequence against Syndrome in 2004’s The Incredibles, in the background of the fight, you can see a 1951 Hudson Hornet. Two years later, Doc Hudson was introduced in Cars. But, fans were having a bit of trouble finding Toy Story 4‘s connection to Onward. It seems, however, YouTuber Jace Diehl has found the easter egg.
What is the Onward Easter egg?
In his 10-minute explanation, he started by explaining the history behind Easter eggs in Pixar. He then went on to fixate on a bouncy castle found in the traveling carnival. The bouncy castle is seemingly the only standout thing that is themed as “medieval” or “fantasy”.
Lo and behold, in the after-credits sequence, viewers get a clearer shot of the bouncy castle. On the castle, there is a pegasus plastered on it. This may seem random, but if you’ve seen any of the trailers for Onward, this is significant. The same pegasus is featured on the side of Barley’s van which has appeared on posters and within trailers. This easter egg is well-placed, not everyone expects to have to look so hard to find the secret easter egg, most of the time, they’re hidden, but not too obscured. Though, it is important to know, this may not be the Easter egg Pixar had in mind.
Onward does away with humans, telling the story of what if mythical creatures such as dragons, gnomes, and elves live together in a modern setting. The movie follows elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot as they journey to find magic in a world that lost it. To add even more stress to an already tough situation, they are put on a deadline as they must find the magic before their father, who was restored as a pair of legs after an attempted restoration, disappears, never to be seen again.
The film is going to be directed by Monster University director Dan Scanlon. The film is going to star Tom Holland as Ian alongside Chris Pratt as Barley.
Onward is hitting theaters on March 6, 2020.
