The crime-drama, Reef Break, is not coming back for a second season. This announcement comes after Disney, who owns ABC, decided to reevaluate overseas strategies and its appearance in the UK. Among other things, Disney opted to cut the cord of ABC Studios International, a studio based in the UK.
Reef Break starred Unforgettable and Mission Control‘s Poppy Montgomery as its main character, Cat Chambers. It was produced by French studio M6 beside ABC. The series saw multiple executive producers working on the first season. Steve Pearlman, Poppy Montgomery, Mark Rosner, and Ruthanne Secunda were those in charge. Stuart Wood and Guy Louthan acted as producers.
In its first season, it was wasn’t loved by critics, but fans seemed to enjoy it. The decision to cancel a seemingly well-liked series will always seem weird to the outside eye, but it likely wasn’t drawing enough attention to warrant another season.
This was merely the second project under ABC Studios International’s belt. The first was another crime-drama called Harrow, which is currently enjoying the high life as a third season is in the making. That being said, Reef Break was its first series to get US distribution.
This wasn’t a huge hit to showrunner Ken Sanzel, though. He’s already found himself in a comfortable spot as writer and executive producer of The International.
