CBS has made the executive decision to preemptively renew 2021’s The Equalizer, a reboot to an existing property, for a second season. The show has proven to be a big hit on the station, raking in an average 14.6 million views.
The reboot series, which premiered in early February, is joining the ranks of other CBS shows which have gotten newed like B Positive, Bob Hearts Abishola, and The Neighborhood.
Queen Latifah plays Robyn McCall, a former CIA operative who uses such experience to her advantage in helping those who have nowhere to turn to. Effectively, she acts like a guardian angel.
CBS Entertainment’s president, Kelly Kahl, said The Equalizer proved to be engaging to viewers, a huge hit on Sunday nights, and that they are proud of how the attention the series is seeing.
“The Equalizer has proven more than equal to the task of engaging viewers and racking up wins on Sunday night. We’re extremely proud to see this outstanding broadcast drama, led by Queen Latifah, punch through the competitive landscape and return for a second season.”
