Disney appears to be casting Ariel’s sisters for its live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Production is expected to kick off in April, but sources told The DisInsider that the six sisters – Attina, Alana, Adella, Aquata, Arista and Andrina – are being worked on getting cast. The characters appeared albeit briefly in the original film.
No one was acknowledged as the top actresses to fill the roles. But, it wouldn’t be surprising if Chole Bailey was at least considered for one of the sisters.
The known cast includes Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, a move that some deemed odd thanks to her silly films. Jacob Tremblay, Jonah Hauer-King, and Awkwafina are attached to the role of Flounder, Prince Eric, and Scuttle respectively. Daveed Diggs is going to play Sebastian. The role of the Little Mermaid herself is going to 19-year-old Grown-ish actress, Halle Bailey.
Aladdin‘s Alan Menken and Moana‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda will be remastering songs from the original The Little Mermaid as well as writing new ones. Supposedly, one is going to even feature Prince Eric flying solo.
Mary Poppins Returns‘ Rob Marshall is directing. Production will begin in April in the Caribbean.
