Iconic cat and mouse duo, Tom and Jerry, are coming to the big screen in a CGI live-action movie next year. This wasn’t hidden by any means, however, it seems to be coming sooner than expected. Originally, the movie was set to hit theaters April 2021, but according to THR, its release has been pushed forward to Dec. 23, 2020.
Taking place with the duo being evicted from their home, the two find themselves in a high-class hotel. While Tom plays the piano to make his way through life, meanwhile Jerry has to go and it falls on Kayla, an employee who will lose her job if it’s not done in time for a fancy wedding. Instead of doing it herself, she opts to bring in Tom to do it for her.
The cat and mouse have a long history in the animation world, having started syndication in 1940. It was an Oscar-worthy hit and went on for years. It hasn’t even fully stopped, though, it’s clearly different than its origin material.
Tom and Jerry is coming to theaters on Dec. 23, 2020.
