Will Smith has spoken support for Mena Massoud, the lead of Disney‘s live-action Aladdin. During a segment with Variety, Smith, who portrayed the Genie in the film, expressed that he’s a good actor and that he doesn’t have anything to worry about.
In an interview with The Daily Beast published Wednesday, Massoud said that despite this massive Disney-related opportunity falling into his lap, he hasn’t gotten a single audition since then.
“I’m kind of tired of staying quiet about it,” Massoud said. “I want people to know that it’s not always dandelions and roses when you’re doing something like Aladdin. ‘He must have made millions. He must be getting all these offers.’ It’s none of those things. I haven’t had a single audition since Aladdin came out.”
The role of Aladdin was, of course, a difficult one as Mena Massoud had to – and successfully did – beat out about 2,000 other actors seeking the role. The 28-year-old actor is slated to appear on Hulu‘s series, Reprisal, set to kick off Friday. Though, he nabbed that role before Aladdin debuted.
